Premier Therapy private clinics offer Podiatry and Chiropody services to both gym members and non-members. All Premier Podiatrists are experienced practitioners in their specialty field, state registered and members of their professional association.
Podiatry is a medical discipline that deals with the foot health and disease and its affect on the rest of the body. Chiropody is a branch of Podiatry specifically concerned with TREATMENT of abnormalities of the skin and nails.
A consultation with a Podiatrist will involve:
- Thorough assessment, possibly including lower limb biomechanical analysis
- Diagnosis and discussion of a treatment plan
- Advice and treatment sometimes in close association with a Physiotherapist
Podiatric Biomechanics is the treatment of gait related disorders that directly cause pain and dysfunction in:
- The foot including toe, arch and heel
- The ankle
- The shin
- The knee
Conditions that are indirectly influenced can be varied but commonly include:
- Spinal problems
- Headaches
A Podiatric Biomechanical Assessment will include:
- Examination of the joints of the feet, ankles, knees and hips
- Muscle strength and flexibility tests
- Posture and gait analysis using advanced computer video techniques
- Footwear examination
Following which a management plan will be recommended and may involve:
- Advice regarding appropriate footwear
- Stretching and strengthening exercises
- Functional taping
- Manipulation and mobilisation of joints and soft tissues possibly in conjunction with Physiotherapy treatment
- Foot orthotic prescription
Premier's Podiatrist's and Physiotherapist's have a close working relationship, their communication is fundamental to the successful treatment of many conditions both directly and indirectly involving the feet and lower extremities.
